The 93 stores and Robert Dyas website are supported by a Retail Support Centre in Wimbledon, the Distribution Centre in Hemel Hempstead and the Customer Support Centre in Crewe.
Job Purpose
To write compelling and engaging copy which reinforces the Robert Dyas brand and highlights the benefits of our home and garden ranges.

Main duties and responsibilities:
  • Develop the Robert Dyas personality and tone of voice across all communications
  • Develop product and non-product specific content which reinforces the brand and the proposition, highlighting all key product USPs where necessary
  • Plan upcoming blog content in line with business activity, writing SEO-optimised blogs/guides and managing content on the CMS
  • Work with the internal SEO team to ensure copy improves our natural search
  • Proofread all copy before circulating to the wider business, ensuring accuracy of both grammar and product information
  • Act on feedback and amends from the wider business and share with the studio team within agreed framework and deadlines 
  • Write campaign-led radio scripts, liaise with the radio agency on production and budget and attend recording sessions
  • Write copy for direct mail, press ads and other external communications  
  • Work with Brand and PR Manager and external agency on pitching ideas for and writing press releases on a monthly basis
  • Work on headline messaging for promotional campaigns
  • Create a weekly report on competitor activity and share with the business
  • Work with wider marketing team to ensure that the combination of copy and visuals for all campaigns creates real impact
  • Maintain the retail copy database
  • Work closely with Brand and PR Manager to help support our CSR/environmental agenda and write content for the various initiatives planned
  • Check and provide feedback on copy tests from potential new Category Assistants
  • Support retail marketing team in the production of all publication, POS and general store communications 
  • Help create excellent content for social media channels 
  • Ad hoc copy and marketing initiatives 

Specific Skills and Experience:

  • Copywriting
  • Good communicator
  • Creative with a good sense of humour
  • Previous experience working with graphic designers would be advantageous
  • Previous editorial experience desirable - offline or online
  • Previous product-based editorial experience desirable


Competencies: 
  • Copywriting experience for a retail or product-focussed business with the ability to turn jargon and technical functions into clear benefits in simple, elegant, customer friendly language  
  • Ability to prioritise, juggle several work streams at once and work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
  • You will need to be extremely well organised, a confident communicator
  • Highly literate and highly articulate in written and verbal communications with a good creative eye and excellent attention to detail
  • A thorough approach and excellent eye for detail in every task undertaken
  • A quick, pragmatic and efficient approach to work
  • A can-do attitude – prepared to go that extra mile
  • Quick to gain a good understanding of the product Robert Dyas sells and the Robert Dyas brand values
  • Highly organised and responsive with the ability to multitask and adapt to a fast trading environment
  • Good MS Office skills essential
