Job Purpose
 
Reporting to the Head of Ecommerce, the Online Trading Analyst is responsible for analysing product range performance online. You will undertake planning, marketing, merchandising and promoting the range, and reporting on its performance .You will also work with the main chain buying teams to strategically review and develop the ecommerce product strategy and provide insight into their product performance on the web, based on website analytics data and an analysis of the online competition.

Main duties and responsibilities  
 
Planning
 

  • Lead online product and promotion planning activities maintaining a product planning calendar.
  • Product promotion planning includes (but not limited to) homepages, landing pages, emails, leaflets, PR, Search Engine marketing (PPC and SEO), social marketing
  • Take a lead from the main store chain trading team on planning product promotional activity
  • Work closely with the ecommerce marketing and content teams to identify product to drive acquisition marketing and content marketing activity

Analysis, Strategy & Reporting
 


  • Identify strengths and weakness in current main chain product range and its suitability for online retailing
  • Work with main chain buying teams to identify new product areas for growth
  • Work with key suppliers and buying teams to grow our dropship range
  • Provide strategic insight into product range performance and identify strategies to improve
  • Work with marketing teams to identify product stories to drive the brand’s success online
  • Develop the online product marketing strategy in line with overall brand strategy
  • Work with the development and content teams to identify ways to improve range visibility and performance on the website
  • Provide weekly summaries of key performance indicators within departments of responsibility, relating to sales, stock, profit and markdown versus budget.
  • Monitor and report on competitor product ranging and price activity
  • Adhoc reporting of promotional activity

 Trading
 


  • Create and manage a trading calendar focused around the Top xx lines across each category
  • Monitor and analyse daily and weekly trading performance, identifying actions to drive or recover sales in product categories vs budget
  • Work with buying teams to understand their product range and identify key products that will drive sales across all categories online
  • Provide buying teams regular insight into their ranges’ performance online explaining through statistical analyses where and why they are succeeding or falling short of target
  • Analyse online sales vs main chain sales identifying reasons for variance
  • Monitor competitor trading activity

 Online Merchandising
 


  • Work with the ecommerce content teams to ensure onsite merchandising of products is prioritising the right products in the right areas
  • Prepare and lead regular trade updates and feedback sessions to identify opportunities and agree action plans for underperforming areas
  • Continuously work to improve onsite conversion by identifying product ranges that are underperforming in relation to overall site performance and work with the ecommerce team to improve conversion

 Specific Skills and Experience
 

  • At least three years’ experience in Buying/Product Selection and/or Product Marketing/Merchandising.
  • Experience of E Commerce merchandising
  • A high commercial understanding of the Robert Dyas customer and product range
  • Good knowledge of excel
  • Strong analytical skills essential
